True Purpose Adventures: Machu Picchu!
Welcome! Have you always been fascinated by Machu Picchu?
Read on and discover how to join me on an adventure to experience the mind-blowing beauty, culture, and architecture of Peru and Machu Picchu in April/May/June 2024 and 2025!
The most famous Incan site in South America, Machu Picchu has been on people’s bucket list since they were first fascinated by it as a kid. It is an archaeological site characterized by mind-blowing architectural techniques and resident alpacas, surrounded by the breath-taking Andean mountains.
The usual way to get there? By train from Cusco, Peru.
The usual place to stay? A 3- or 4-star hotel in Aguas Calientes, the tourist town at the base of the mountain that cradles the ancient royal estate of Machu Picchu between its two peaks.
If you’ve learned anything about Transformation, Travel, and Tacos or researched joining me in JT's Explorer 100, then you know that “usual” is what we try to avoid… because "usual" and "normal" are the exact opposite of what drives growth, change, and sustained life transformation.
Which means it’s the opposite of what we DO.
And that’s why we take a different route. We stay in different places. We use different forms of transportation. We seek different experiences. In short, we make it a growth-focused True Purpose Adventure...

Lima. Cusco. Ollantaytambo. Machu Picchu. Chinchero. And MORE...
The trip I have planned for experiencing Peru is unmatched. Discover why.
"Arrival Day" will depend on you and what time you arrive in Lima. Because you and your fellow Explorers arrive at all different times of the day (and possibly night), it's considered "Day 0" for the trip.
Whether you arrive early or late, JT or a hotel representative will greet you.
If you arrive early, I'll give you some ideas about what to do on your own (and where to eat!) once you've reached your hotel.
If you arrive late, you'll be greeted and taken to the hotel to get some sleep.
The next morning starts "Day 1", where we will NOT do what typical tourists do in Lima... because with True Purpose Adventures, growth-developing contrast begins almost immediately.
After an amazing day, we'll prepare to get up early to get to the airport the next morning.

After flying from Lima into Cusco the morning of Day 2, you’ll start with a van ride to Chinchero. There, we’ll experience a class about alpaca wool, hand-woven fabrics, and Andean clothing. Then, we’ll enjoy the circular agricultural terraces of Moray and the 5000 salt evaporation ponds of Maras in an exciting, unique way. After learning about these two lesser known (and absolutely fascinating) archaeological sites, we’ll complete the day with the first of 2 nights in Ollantaytambo…
… one of the last standing fortresses defending the Incas against the Spaniards in the mid-1400s.
(It also happens to be a place I would move to. Tomorrow.)

Ollantaytambo is beautiful. Peaceful. It exposes us to a simpler time and culture. Surrounded by mountains and exceptional ruins originally commissioned by royalty, it is also the starting point of the famous Inca Trail.
The morning of Day 3, I have a surprise in store for you.
Here’s all I’ll say, because this is a completely unique experience: together, we’ll start at an elevation greater than 14,000 feet near the base of a massive glacier and descend nearly 5000 feet over the course of about 2 hours.
We will return that afternoon to Ollantaytambo, have lunch, and then visit the ruins surrounding Ollantaytambo before bedding down that night in preparation for an early morning to start our next adventure.

We spend Day 4 on the last portion of the Inca Trail. (Yes, THAT Inca Trail!)
Instead of spending the normal 4 days on the Inca Trail camping in tents, we’re going to spend one day trekking the final portion… a day that ends entering Machu Picchu from the lesser-traveled Sun Gate.
We’ll enter Machu Picchu later in the afternoon, when the typical tourist is leaving for the day. With fewer people at the site, we’ll have better opportunities for taking authentic, uninterrupted photos of this classic ruin and its stunning construction techniques that still baffle today’s architects and civil engineers.
We’ll spend the evening in Aguas Calientes and return to Machu Picchu the next morning for a guided tour on Day 5… but only after a special excursion to the top of one of the surrounding mountains that overlooks the Incan citadel. Late that afternoon, we’ll begin our journey back to Ollantaytambo, where we’ll take a well-deserved night of rest and sleep.

On Day 6, we start our journey to a Quechua village nearly 1000 meters above Ollantaytambo. Here, we will not only get private demonstrations of the Andean art of cleaning and dying alpaca and then weaving it into fabric to create garments…
...we will also stay in the homes of the villagers for the night. On the morning of Day 7, we will enjoy breakfast together and enjoy a hike in the mountains while our hosts use an ancient cooking technique to prepare our lunch. Afterwards, we will have the opportunity to thank our hosts and then return to Ollantaytambo or Cusco that evening.

Of course, there is more. Day 8 is still wide open, with options to make our own chocolate bars in a "Bean to Bar" experience. Cooking classes. Pisco sours. Additional ruins. Perhaps even massages.
On Day 9, we will experience what most people who travel to Peru never even consider…
… making our way to Humantay Lake, which sits at 13,780' (4200m).
Thankfully, we will already be acclimated, but it's still a strong 1.5 hour hike up to the turquoise waters that sit at the base of the Humantay and Salcantay mountains.
Don't get me wrong: this incredibly gorgeous lake is the third most visited site in the area. The difference is we are going to do this "on the fly".
Without reserving it online. Without figuring it out weeks in advance. And perhaps even without using a guide or tour operator.
Because we are Explorers... and learning how to figure out transportation and other logistics in a developing country WILL create growth that leads to immeasurably greater confidence for your future travel adventures.

After Humantay Lake, we'll make our way to Cusco and fly back to Lima that night or the next morning (Day 10 is "Departure Day").
In summary… you can do what most people do: fly into Lima, fly to Cusco, take a train to Aguas Caliente, and spend a morning and afternoon in Machu Picchu. Like a vacationing tourist.
And if that's all you're interested in or have time for: go for it. I genuinely wish you a great vacation.
Or... you can join me for 10 days and experience a uniquely curated, growth-producing True Purpose Adventure.
And one more thing:
These trip details aren't exact. I might add something. Logistics might force us to subtract something.
We'll be in Peru... a developing country. Which means you never know: something absolutely amazing might pop up that causes us to re-evaluate an entire day.
What I can absolutely tell you, without hesitation, is that everything we do will be focused around doing things that are unique, visiting cultures that create contrast, and occasionally having our jaw drop in wonder.
Together, we'll go. Together... we'll grow.

Psst... The trip to Peru isn't even close to everything you get.

Summarized Debriefs
As members of JT's Explorer 100 enjoy and experience True Purpose Adventures, I'll write summarized debriefs for each of the journeys I guide, so that you can thoughtfully consider the lessons others have learned along the way.
Learning from the experience of others is a shortcut to wisdom.
Here are my predictions for you, if you qualify. Consider this...
You are surrounding yourself with growth-focused, adventurous people who want to make the world a better place.
Because of that...
I’m excited for you. For US.
Because - over time - together, we are going to learn each other's hopes, dreams, and aspirations… and then we get to experience the joy of thinking about how to help each other achieve those things.
To see if you qualify for a Zoom call to discuss this further, click the button below.
IF we move forward together, here are a few specific details...
Here are a few quick additional reminders and specific “terms” of JT’s Explorer 100.
1
You will have a 30-day, 100% money-back guarantee. If you change your mind, just let me know within 30 days, and I’ll issue a full refund. No worries. No hard feelings.
Think about it: I’m creating a community of incredible, growth-focused people who I’ll be guiding and leading on bucket list adventures in developing countries. I want you to WANT to be there!
2
Purely for logistical reasons in a developing country, and so that the experience has its intended transformative effect (elevated HAPPIness), I must limit the number of people I take on each True Purpose Adventure.
When a trip is announced, commit EARLY. If demand increases, and when I can, I’ll do my best to schedule a repeat trip to that destination.
3
Each trip will have its own set of important details to consider. Of course, I’m always there to explain and answer questions once a trip is announced, but be sure you understand everything that is included or excluded.
For example, you always purchase your own transportation to and from the city and country in which we start an adventure. Check the details of each trip.
4
Finally, the tough one: I am fiercely protective of the explorers in JT’s Explorer 100. Safety, growth, and exposure to contrast that may elevate perspectives are paramount to our journey, whether we are on a trip together, in a Facebook group, on a Zoom call, or interacting in any way.
People are unique. Cultures are different. I value and deeply respect those differences. The contrast is life-changing. I reserve the right to remove anyone from the community who creates risk, operates unsafely, or acts disrespectfully to another Explorer or to the amazing locals who help us. Even if we're on the side of a mountain.
This isn't for most people... but it is for people who seek growth, understand the power of contrast-seeking adventure travel, and respect the value of community.
And if you've made it this far down the page, I'm inviting you to apply.
